MetaTrader Platform
The MetaTrader application is a well known piece of software used for algorithmic trading and automated trading of Forex and other markets. The software also has a back testing component, which allows you to determine how well a specific strategy may have performed against a market. We have made it easy to load cryptocurrency timeseries data into the MetaTrader platform for backtesting, and this guide will help you load data for
both MetaTrader 4 and 5 versions!

Loading Data
First step is to download the .mt4 file from our member section for the specific pair you choose. Next, you will go to "View -> Symbols" or use shortcut keys: Ctrl-U
Then in the Symbols Dialog Box, click "Create custom Symbol", which will pop open a new dialog box for "Custom Symbol" that looks like the below. It is easiest to "Copy From" a previously created symbol that MetaTrader is aware of (but feel free to customize as you want). Our suggestion would be to use "XAUUSD", which is gold, as the timeframe is set for a 24/5 market. You then want to change the symbol name in the top right to a name of your choosing, and then press OK.
Next, you want to switch over to the "Bars" tab (you were on "Specification" before). This is the section where we will actually load the candlestick data. First set the "timeframe" (unlabeled) next to the symbol for the timeframe you are using. Daily or M1 for minute data. On the bottom there is an "Import Bars" button, click it.
Next you will then browse to load the file you downloaded and you should see all data populate in the below grid. The only next step would be to press "OK"
This will take you to the final screen where all data is now loaded, and the top shows how many bars were loaded. The final steps is to press "OK" again, and then re-start MetaTrader application. Once re-loaded, the data will appear as a Custom Symbol.
